Some Stories You May Have Missed

Conservatives:  Think before closing Youth Clubs.

Conservatives have said that Sutton Council's Liberal Democrats must accept responsibility for the impact that closing down youth clubs has on local neighbourhoods after their decision to shut down Club Constellation in North Cheam. At the meeting of the Sutton South, Cheam and Belmont Local Committee w eek or two ago, Tory councillors criticised the Council for its 'short-sighted' approach to youth provision. Closing clubs without taking the impact into account is no longer an option, say local  Tories. Read more here.

Cheam Broadway Listing Successful.

Some good news for Cheam.  We are pleased to tell you that not only has the Council agreed to the Local Listing of the mock Tudor frontages in The Broadway, Cheam, but they have also accepted Graham Whitham's request that the buildings fronting the residential development on the old Express Dairy site be included. Read more here.

Sutton LibDems run Leisure like Brittas Empire

At a recent Council meeting, the dubious future for leisure in Sutton was said to bear more resemblance to 'The Brittas Empire' than a competent local authority thanks to the Liberal Democrats, said Conservatives on Sutton Council. Lib Dem Graham Tope, executive councillor for leisure services, is failing to control his portfolio according to the Tory opposition, after refusing to address concerns that he plans to axe Cheam Leisure Centre (CLC). Scrapping CLC would leave the western part of the Borough without nearby leisure provision. Read more here.

Money finally found for Parking Survey in Belmont

At the Sutton South, Cheam and Belmont Local Committee on Wednesday 30th January 2008, your two Conservative Councillors, Pam Picknett and Peter Geiringer, successfully identified a potential source of funding to carry out the long awaited parking survey in Belmont Village.

For several years your two Conservative Councillors have requested funding from Sutton’s Liberal Democrat Council always to be told that there was NO MONEY in the pot. For the past two years we requested funding from Ken Livingstone’s ‘Transport for London’, only to be REFUSED on BOTH occasions.  Read more here.
