Dear Subscriber.

An astonishing story has been posted on the Sutton Guardian website under the headline 'Council charges £35 to collect waste.... then dumps it in next town'.

The news story reads: Sutton Council faces accusations of gross hypocrisy after being caught illegally dumping two truckloads of garden waste in a neighbouring borough. The local authority invests thousands of pounds in combating fly-tipping but appears to have missed one of the biggest culprits: itself.

Photographs (courtesyy of Sutton Guardian) uncovered by the Sutton Guardian show a council van emptying rotting cuttings near a recreation ground in Reigate and Banstead. The evidence of environmental crime gives an astonishing answer to householders wondering where their green waste is going.  You can read more here >>

NB:   The Full Council Meeting on Monday 21st July 2008 at 7pm is open to the public.  The meeting takes place in the Europa Gallery, Civic Offices, Sutton.
